I'm just so elated today. Rafa has won his first Wimbledon crown after such a fantastic display of the best tennis final you'll ever see. It was really pure madness. It was such a crazy, time-to-bite-the nails kinda match. My heart really took a damn good beating during the 5-set thriller. I thought it would end at 3rd set with Rafa's momentum up and two sets already in the bag. But stupid rain delay. When play resumed, Federer claimed the 3rd and 4th set. He had to fight for it though. Each set went into a tiebreak and Roger has a very good record with these situations. I was feeling kinda down during the 4th set where he wasted championship points. But I was hoping it will not keep him from playing well. So on to the deciding set full of hope that everything will go right. I believe Rafa has the mental strength to bring himself back up and be interested in the play. And he did. Albeit keeping me at the edge of my seat. Fed was really firing aces, I guess that's what really made him last that long. Quite unbelievable actually. Damn those serves. But I was amazed at Rafa's spirit and determination to keep coming back from a set down. Finally, he was able to broke Fed's serve (no more of those) and had the chance to serve for the championship. That was his moment, his chance and he took it. 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7 Vamos!!! I'm so happy.
Nadal had matched the Bjorn Borg fantastic feat of winning the Grand Slams of Roland Garros and Wimbledon back-to-back and had also prevented Federer surpassing the five titles in a row he collected between 1976 and 1980.
Congratulations Rafa! Well done!
